St. Michael's College, Master Plan

Colchester, Vermont

The Campus Master Plan addresses the needs of a rapidly expanding post-war college. The master plan included a new science center, library addition, additional academic building expansion and improvements, as well as an athletic expansion that included indoor tracks and other amenities. Particular attention was focused on student life and on the specific needs of the college, resulting in an innovative new housing typology. Conceived as groups of townhouse style dormitories, these residential complexes were designed so that if the concept failed they could be rented to the community as attractive market value housing. They were a success with the students, and as a result we have been involved with four subsequent housing projects the College has completed over the past 15 years.
